Paravna mother go to the prison despite the fact the Taliban where unlikely to release her husband because she probaly loved him alot and that no one can support the family but pavana's father because he was a male and only males where allowed to go to work outside. If I was parvana mother I would wait and make the left over supplies intil parvana's father is released from jail.

I think that parvana mother stopted taking care of the family because, maybe she thought getting her husband was more importent because only mans are allowed to go outside and there is no one that't a male beside's ali. Parvana might be really sad because the soilders took her dad away and they were even beating her mother really hard with a stick.
